INDIVIDUAL & GROUP SUPERVISION

Individual & Group Supervision/ Supervisor’s Scope of Competence:

 

Allison Cordner is an experiential & relational process-based Registered Clinical Counsellor (BCACC), a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), and a Registered Counselling Therapist & Supervisor (RCS) with the ACCT of Canada. Allison obtained her Master of Counselling Psychology in 2022 from Yorkville University and completed her Professional Counselling diploma in transpersonal counselling with Clearmind International in 2019. Over the years, she has pursued further education and training from respected institutions such as The Justice Institute of BC, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy Institute, ERGOS institute’s Peter Levine & the Somatic Experiencing Institute.


In 2024, Allison achieved certification in Relational Processed-Based Supervision at JIBC, and in 2022, she received accreditation in Somatic Experiencing SEP with the trauma institute. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance from Concordia University in Montreal then a diploma in Commercial Photography from Dawson College in Montreal, she shifted from performing arts (classical voice & dance) into the visual arts. Her specialisation was documenting family and children's developmental years & milestones. She became sought out for her expertise in mediating family conflicts, working with newborns and creating a confidential & safe environment for children of all ages to express themselves authentically. 

Transitioning to transpersonal counseling in 2019, Allison now works full-time in her private practice, Speakeasy Counselling & Associates, assisting individuals, couples & university students dealing with relational and developmental trauma. 


Drawing from her personal experiences of cultural, linguistic, attachment, intergenerational conflicts, traumatic grief and loss & sexual trauma, she helps clients of all backgrounds and gender identities find a sense of belonging and healing. Allison's background in the arts inspires her integrative use of psychodrama, empty chair work, somatic & transpersonal/spiritual exploration.

Supervisee’s World View and Values

 

Allison's mentors in the field are the Gottman's, Peter Levine, Gabor Mate, Janina Fisher, Diana Fosha, and Diane Poole Heller. Her commitment to utilizing proven relational clinical tools and her dedication to ongoing learning, creating a warm, fun, animated, relational, humorous, attuned and inclusive environment make her a valuable resource for supervisees with lived experiences of relational trauma looking for a wounded warrior who can help them deepen the therapeutic relationship through rupture and repair dyadic exploration.

Competencies Expectations

 

  • It is expected that supervision will occur in a competency-based framework.
  • Supervisee will self-assess clinical competencies (knowledge, skills and values/attitudes).
  • Supervisor will compare supervisee self-assessments with their own assessments based on observation and report of counselling practice, supervision and competency-instruments.

Context of Supervision

 

Supervision is process-oriented meaning the counsellor’s awareness, their descriptions of how they conceptualize their client/supervisee’s issues, and their own personal experiences are used to develop personal insights and enhance professional skills. Utilizing a variety of modalities to include, but are not limited to Gestalt, Relational Somatic, humanistic, interpersonal psychotherapy, and cognitive-behavioural, supervision involves facilitative, confrontative and interpersonal interventions. Parallel process is used as a catalyst for enhancing awareness of client and supervisee dynamics. 

Supervision Elements

 

  • Supervision sessions will be held monthly in individual, dyadic and/or group sessions. Supervision sessions take place online and on occasion in-person.
  • Supervision consists of regular and consistent sessions (monthly at minimum)
  • Client files including session notes and treatment planning will be available to review during the supervision session.
  • Supervision may consist of multiple modalities including review of sessions, progress notes, discussion of sessions, instruction, modeling, mutual problem-solving and role-play with the overarching focus being relational processed-based interactions. 
  • A receipt will be provided upon payment of supervision services, a copy of your credit card is kept encrypted on file through Jane Clinics system.

Evaluation

 

  • Feedback will be provided throughout the supervision process.
  • Supervisor and Supervisee will complete a Supervisor Evaluation upon the completion of the supervisee’s supervision requirements.
  • If the supervisee does not meet the competency-based criteria, the supervisee will be informed at the first indication of this and supportive and remedial steps will be implemented to assist the supervisee.
  • If the supervisee continues not to meet competency-based standards of practice, the steps in place and procedures laid out by the supervisor will be followed.

Confidentiality

 

Rights and Responsibilities of Supervisor

  1. Oversees and monitors all aspects of client cases, record keeping and treatment planning.
  2. Challenges and problem solves with supervisee and asks questions about practice and client cases.
  3. Provides supervisee with constructive feedback on his/her counselling competencies.
  4. Observes supervisee’s practice and initiates supportive/corrective action as required.
  5. Ensures supervision sessions happen as agreed, keeps records of meetings and signs off on the monthly reporting forms.
  6. Creates a supervision file for each supervisee containing their supervision records and other documents relating to their counselling practice.
  7. Ensures that supervisee is kept up-to-date with current regulations in the counselling profession.
  8. Ensures a high level of professionalism in all interactions.
  9. Identifies and addresses strains or ruptures in the supervisory relationship and deals with problems as they impact the supervisee’s performance.
  10. Supports supervisee and the agreed personal and professional development plan.

The contract may be revised at the request of supervisee or supervisor. The contract will be formally reviewed at quarterly intervals, annually, and more frequently as indicated. Revisions will be made only with consent of supervisee and approval of supervisor.
